Method Description

The Blood-brain barrier-on-a-chip (BBB-oC) is a 3D co-culture of brain microvascular endothelial cells, pericytes, astrocytes and/or neurons in a microfluidic interconnected three-chamber device. The BBB-oC is designed to evaluate the permeability of the BBB, by transendothelial electrical resistance (TEER) measurement through integrated microelectrodes and fluorescent measurements using tracers of different molecular weight. The method is proposed as an in vitro alternative for the evaluation of the performance of brain-targeting drugs.
